Charlton Athletic v Chesterfield Preview

Charlton will be looking to mainatin top spot of League One when Chesterfield visit on Saturday.

On the downside for the Addicks, it seems Bradley Pritchard is out for a while, suffering a broken fifth metatarsal. This is is the injury that sidelined David Beckham before a World Cup Finals campaign.

Chris Powell has stated that Pritchard will be out for a number of weeks but it is normally around three months before a player is playing again with this type of injury.

Pritchard has shown lots of potential during his short time at The Valley and he will be frustrated with events but it will make him even more determined to succeed.

Tuesday’s private friendly with West Ham saw Mikel Alonso play 45 minutes and also featured Yann Kermorgant.

The Addicks go into a three games in eight days spell, starting with tomorrow’s ‘Football For A Fiver’ promotion with Chesterfield. The Valley’s biggest crowd of the season will be expecting three points. Powell will be desperate to have as many of his squad available as possible, so Tuesday’s match will have been closely watched by the manager.

Charlton then go to Milton Keynes on Tuesday before travelling to Bramall Lane next Saturday. If they still sit proudly at the top of the table then, expectation levels really will soar.

After a sluggish start, Chesterfield have found their feet in League One and have won their last three games, scoring freely too.

Nevertheless, Chris Powell will be disappointed if his team do not win in front of the bumper crowd.

Following the game against the Spireites, the Addicks play at MK Dons on Tuesday, then face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane next Saturday.

Powell is keen to play his strongest team in all three games so may send this team out:

Hamer; Solly, Taylor, Morrison, Wiggins; Wagstaff, Srephens, Hollands, Jackson; Hayes, Wright-Phillips.

Subs: Sullivan, Cort, Hughes, Green, Euell.

Yann Kermorgant may have to wait a little longer for his chance while Mikel Alonso may need more time before he is considered.

Graham Scott from Oxford will be the referee.

It may not be as easy as some are anticipating but Charlton should have enough in their locker to take the points.
